Frequently Asked Questions

What should we bring?

A Sack Lunch Your guide will have snacks  (Cliff Bars etc) and extra water on hand.  Due to the many dietary restrictions these days it is imperative that you bring your own lunch.

Waterproof Bag or Daypack - Be sure your lunch, electronics and clothing are in a dry bag that floats or can be clipped to the canoe.

Rain gear Lightweight rain gear of decent quality. (no $3.99 rain suits) Your guide will have extra rain gear, but it is nice to have your own that fits.  Some of our most memorable days have been on rainy days.

Filled Water Bottle - Your guide will have a water filter.  It is necessary to filter lake water due to the presence of Beavers in the lakes.

Phone/CameraBe sure your electronics are in a waterproof bag that FLOATS!

Waterproof Hiking Boots, Sneakers or Rubber Boots - Mesh sneakers are our favorite footgear.  Hiking sandals are OK but get mud and rocks under your feet.  Heavy boots or hip-boots are too heavy, hot and dangerous in the event of a capsize.

SunscreenIt can be sunny on the lakes. There is a lot of reflected sunlight.

Insect RepellantBugs are a part of nature.  They are not usually a problem out on the lakes.  BUT, during the launch, streams and portages they can be a nuisance.  Bring a repellant of your choice.  Guides will have non-DEET repellant on hand.

FYI:  DEET can eat right through your expensive Gore-Tex gear, rubberized rain wear and your waterproof packs!

Sunglasses - Be sure they are on a neck strap!

Synthetic Clothing (please make sure you dress in layers).  Quick-dry fabrics are great.

Hat/Cap - One with a neck strap is highly recommended.

Fishing Gear - Your guide will have complete ultralight spinning outfits for you.  Fly fishing outfits available on request.  Feel free to bring your favorite lure or fly!

Safety - Your guide will have a complete First Aid kit as well as basic survival gear.  They will also have a SPOT Locator activated during the trip.

Environment - We will be in a pristine natural setting and a protected National Wilderness Area.  It is vital that we practice Leave No Trace procedures.  Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photographs, keep nothing but memories.

Gratuity - This is seasonal work for all guide services.  It is customary to tip your guide for their personalized efforts on your trip.  It would be greatly appreciated.

Your positive attitude and sense of adventure :)
